Olympics has boosted hockey - now Sussex claubs hope to attract new players

THE Olympics proved a terrific advert for the game of hockey.

The Riverbank Arena was packed to the rafters for every game of the competition – proving that people are very interested in and passionate about the sport.

Local clubs are hoping people embrace the legacy of the Olympic experience and are encouraging anyone whose interest has been tapped to experience hockey first-hand.

You don’t have to be incredibly fit or have GB star Alex Danson’s stick skill to enjoy the game.

Young players will be encouraged to learn and play and will be supported to advance their playing careers. Older players are equally encouraged to give hockey a go.

Bognor Town Ladies are always looking for new players. There is always room at their club for people of any age or ability.

They play league hockey and like to win, but don’t mind losing. They have a strong emphasis on fun and enjoyment. People aged 11 to 65-plus have played and the club’s honours roll includes county and international players.
