With a lot of players arriving late because of an accident on the Lewes by-pass, preparation was seriously disrupted and this was reflected in an uninspiring first half.
On a bone-hard pitch and in hot conditions it was not easy for either side to play fluent football and it was easy to feel sympathy for the paying spectator.

Hide AdThere was just one goalscoring opportunity for either side in open play – for Seaford when Connor Jones broke through the middle only to send a tame effort straight to keeper Aaron Jeal; and for Midhurst when Gary Norgate, stretching for the ball, could not get a strong enough touch to worry Ben Head, Seaford’s keeper.
There was a free-kick for Seaford on the edge of the box that Jeal did well to save low down to his left, diverting the ball for a corner.
There was a distinct improvement for Midhurst in the second half which led to them scoring the only goal, to the pleasure of manager John Suter.
Norgate did well to get to the byline on the hour and his angled pass led to George Morris gleefully smashing in. Midhurst looked likely to score again and would have done if goalkeeper Head had not produced an excellent double save from Norgate and then Morris.

Midhurst’s winning start did not continue at East Preston in midweek - they lost 3-0.
This Saturday Midhurst visit St Francis Rangers in round two of the RUR Charity Cup.
