Eldridge not fussed about being top
Common have picked up 13 points from a possible 18 to lead the way four weeks into the Sussex County Football League Division Two season.
When Common’s position at the summit was mentioned to him, Common player-manager Eldridge replied: “Apparently so. I don’t really look at the league table. We’ll get more of an understanding after 10 games.”

Hide AdCommon responded to their only defeat so far away to Newhaven with three wins in the space of eight days, but Eldridge wouldn’t be drawn on whether his team can be among the frontrunners this term.
“The response has been fantastic from everyone,” he continued. “We’ve made a good start, but we’re not going to rest on our laurels. I think it’s too early to talk about who’s going to be challenging and who’s not.”
It does at least look, however, as though there should be no repeat of last season when Common needed a strong finish to avoid the two relegation places.
“I think we’ve played a few more games than some people, but we’re getting those points on the board early which is key for us so we don’t have those worries we had at the back end of last year,” Eldridge went on.
