The Queen will mark her birthday without Prince Philip for the first time during her reign

The Queen will celebrate her 95th birthday without Prince Philip for the first time during her reign as the royal family observes another week of mourning following his death.

Her birthday is on Wednesday, four days after the Duke of Edinurgh’s funeral service in St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

The celebrations will be toned down to reflect the period of grief or the family.

The Queen spent her last birthday with her husband, but opted to speak with other family members through private video calls due to first Covid lockdown restrictions.

The bells of Westminster Abbey – the church where she was married and crowned – stayed silent on her birthday for the first time in more than a decade last year.

The celebratory peal has taken place in her honour on her real birthday – 21 April – every year since 2007.
