Way forward for A27 will be dealt with
But a major improvement scheme for the heavily congested road will remain the county council’s ‘ultimate aim,’ and pressure for this on the government will be maintained.
Cllr Pieter Montyn, member for highways and transport, said the county-based strategy would be aimed at improvements deliverable in the short term. It would be targeted at keeping traffic moving at the A27 junctions.

Hide AdThe moves follow a formal notice of motion, submitted by Cllr Derek Deedman, who accepted amendments to it tabled by Cllr Montyn at Friday’s county council meeting.
The motion asked Cllr Montyn to ‘investigate all possible options for improvements to the A27 at Chichester, Arundel and Worthing, including funding options’.
Cllr Montyn said the nub of the plan was to have a number of more manageable options, individually affordable, which could be applied incrementally. The aim was for schemes deliverable in the short term, supporting the county’s economic development and bringing relief to users and residents alike.
