The event enjoyed dry weather as members of the Ewhurst and Staplecross Bonfire Society will led visiting societies, from across Sussex, and drumming groups through the village along unlit lanes from Staplecross to Cripps Corner and back.
The procession then made its way to the bonfire field for a spectacular bonfire and fireworks display which was not diminished by a hazy evening.

John Lederer, of the Ewhurst and Staplecross Bonfire Society, said: “The build up to this fantastic evening involves much organisation and there are a thousand and one jobs to do, for example, risk assessments planned, road closures need to be arranged, fencing and lighting need to be erected as do marquees.
The society is always on the lookout for more members or volunteers to help at various fundraising events throughout the year.
