The Educating Rita and Harry Potter star attracted a large crowd and posed for photos with fans on her visit to Horsham town centre.
She offered high praise for the ‘beautiful’ elephants, which have added colour and vibrancy to the town over the summer months.
She said: “Have I lifted up an elephant before? Probably not, but these are made of paper mâché so they are quite light!

Julie is patron of the Samaritans of Horsham and Crawley and signed the two elephants supporting the charity.
She added: “It is human beings being there for other human beings in their worst moments, and everybody has awful moments.
“It is absolutely wonderful these fantastic people are on the other end of the phone.”

Hide AdCharity director Sue Jago said: “We are very grateful to Horsham Publications and Ritchie Phillips for each supplying an elephant for us and to Collyer’s art students for decorating them so beautifully.
“The icing on the cake is to have Julie Walters signing them in person. Needless to say we are thrilled.”
