UPDATE: One lane of A24 southbound open after fuel spillage closure
Police closed the A24 southbound between Findon and Washington shortly after 6.30am, with the road remaining closed into the early hours of Wednesday morning.
The lorry – a Volvo refrigerated vehicle – suffered nearside damage after colliding with a barrier near the Windlesham House overbridge, near Findon.

Hide AdThe significant fuel spillage caused the road to be slippery and unsafe, so West Sussex County Council Highways shut the road to carry out repairs.
One lane was opened on Wednesday morning, with the second to be resurfaced the following night, after the Herald went to press.
The closure caused traffic chaos, as signed diversions were put in place.
Ginny Santer, commenting on Facebook, said: “Took an hour and a quarter to get from the crematorium back to Worthing at lunchtime – 20 minutes or more of that was to get to Washington.”
Anyone who saw what happened to the lorry just prior to the spillage is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email [email protected], quoting serial 162 of 19/8.
