Sites earmarked for new homes in rural Rother
Rother District Council has revealed a list of its preferred sites in the area to accommodate new houses in the district in its Core Strategy.
It identifies potential housing sites across rural Rother, including in Beckley Four Oaks, Broad Oak, Camber, Catsfield, Hurst Green, Iden, Northiam, Peasmarsh, Rye Harbour and Westfield.

Hide AdThe Core Strategy sets an overall target of between 355-400 dwellings up to 2028 to be built in Rye and Rye Harbour.
There are nine sites that have been considered as potential allocations, which include land at Stonework Cottages, Rye Harbour.
Broad Oak could see an extra 50 houses built over the 12-year period. Land to the west of Northiam Road and land south of the Rainbow Trout pub in the village could be used.
For Camber, Rother District Council is proposing that two brownfield sites are used for around 20 new homes in total, namely land at the former putting green and land at the central car park.

Hide AdCatsfield is identified as having potential for 47 dwellings from new sites within the council’s Core Strategy.
Two sites, namely land to the rear of the White Hart and land south of Skinner’s Lane to the west of the village stand out as preferred options.
The Core Strategy has also identified a requirement for 75 dwellings in Hurst Green from new sites over the next 12 years, which are land off Foundry Close, where 60 houses could be built, and land at Caravan Tech.
The Core Strategy identifies 142 total new dwellings for Northiam between 2011 and 2028. There are more than 20 sites of varying sizes in and around Northiam that have been assessed for their suitability as housing sites.

Hide AdThe majority offered for consideration are located on the eastern and north eastern fringe of Northiam and to the north of Dixter Lane.
Rother has already given planning permission for 65 new houses at Donsmead, Station Road.
Land south of Main Street in Peasmarsh has been identified as a potential site where 45 new homes could be built in the village.
Westfield, just outside Hastings, is required to deliver 89 homes until 2028 from large sites. This includes the current planning permission for 39 dwellings at Westfield Down.
