Paddle boarding or swimming is not permitted in the navigational channel of the Eastern Arm to the harbour entrance at Shoreham Port. However due to the recent warm weather, a Shoreham port spokesman said there had been a ‘large increase’ of paddle boarders in this area. The spokesman said: “Shoreham Port is a busy commercial Port, and large commercial vessels that use the navigational channel cannot stop, can not deviate outside of the navigational channel and have low visibility, meaning it is incredibly dangerous to use SUPs etc in this area due to risk of collision. “There are also underwater obstructions and strong fast-flowing currents that pose a danger to swimmers and SUP users. “We recommend that SUP users stay up the River Adur past Sussex Wharf for their leisure activities, where they can enjoy the water away from much of the traffic using the Port.” A message from the Editor, Gary Shipton: In order for us to continue to provide high quality and trusted local news, I am asking you to please purchase a copy of our newspapers.
