According to a spokesman for West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, seven fire engines responded to a fire at a house in Anscombe Road at 6.52pm. Three crews from Worthing were joined by two from Littlehampton and one each from Lancing, East Preston and Shoreham. Three people ‘self-evacuated’ from the property, the spokesman said, and firefighters with breathing apparatus tackled the well-developed fire on the first floor of the property using six high-pressure hose reels and jets, one fog nail and a hydrant. Paramedics and the air ambulance were also on the scene, supported by officers from Sussex Police. The roof of the property was completely destroyed, with extensive damage to the first floor. Firefighters remained at the scene damping down and turning over to ensure there were no further hotspots, with the last crew leaving the scene at 2.08am.
