East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said three fire engines attended a kitchen fire in Downlands Avenue at 8.28 this morning.
A spokeswoman added: “Three pumps attended, four breathing apparatus, one jet [and] one hose real.”
She confirmed four people were treated for smoked inhalation by the ambulance service and that crews have now left the scene.
