A petition to stop the closure of Pells CE Primary School and Rodmell CE Primary School has been signed by almost 2,000 people and the strength of feeling against the plans was felt again at the weekend as members of the campaign group took to the town’s streets in protest.
They were joined by Lewes MP Maria Caulfield and Cllr Ruth O’Keeffe MBE as they marched from Lewes Skatepark to Pells School brandishing hand-made signs calling for East Sussex County Council to stop closing small schools.

Hide AdMs Caulfield MP said: “I was very keen to listen to parents and to hear their concerns. I understand the anxieties parents have and the uncertainty that this produces.
“I was very happy to sign the petition and I am encouraging everyone involved to make their views known to the county council as part of the consultation process. I will continue to work with parents on this important matter.”
A consultation on the proposed closures is set to take place soon.
