Person rescued from cell at Lewes Prison after fire breaks out

Four fire engines and an ambulance were sent to the prison in Brighton Road at just before 9am this morning (February 11).
East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service said: “Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire and one casualty has been rescued from a cell.

Hide Ad“Crews left the scene at 9.22am. The incident has been handed back to the staff at the prison.”
South East Coast Ambulance Service confirmed it attended the incident.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Justice said: “A prisoner at HMP Lewes is being treated for smoke inhalation after a cell fire this morning. A prison officer later self-admitted to A&E for a check-up. No one else was injured.”
