Hurstpierpoint, Hassocks and Ditchling University of the Third Age celebrate end of lockdown

Hurst Hassocks and Ditchling University of the Third Age (U3A), is a self-help, low-cost learning organisation welcoming anyone who is no longer is full time work, retired or is approaching retirement.
National U3A Day was celebrated by the group on Wednesday, June 2 and Thursday, June 3, with stalls set up across the area.

Hide AdJeremy Weinstein, a member of Hurst Hassocks and Ditchling U3A, said: “To the accompaniment of our saxophone players, flyers were distributed detailing our activities and the 40 groups we run.
“Some have been venturing out into member’s gardens or going on nature walks as restrictions eased, and soon there will be our full complement, including craft, languages and badminton.
“Every generation has found the pandemic difficult to survive and ‘third agers’ have had their particular problems.
“The sense of isolation was exemplified by one woman, coming across the stall by chance, who had recently moved into the area and had been struggling to find her feet and meet people but by the following day, she was being welcomed into a meeting of one of the gardening groups.”
