Outbreak of purse thefts in Bognor town centre
Last week saw a spate of the crimes reported to the police. Most were focused on charity shops.
Police community support officers Kayleigh Foster and Geoff Gear have responded to the renewed presence of the criminals by making people aware of how to protect themselves from having their money, bank cards and keys stolen.

Hide AdPCSO Gear said: "We have gone to the places indicated to be the hot spots for these offences '“ Morrisons, Bon Marche and charity stores.
"We have been outside and spoken to the public and tried to make them more vigilant in their personal security.
"We have provided a leaflet for them, and we have provided a chain for those we deemed to be more vulnerable so they can attach it to their purse.
"We have received a good response and the fact the chain was free was a bonus for the majority of the public.

Hide Ad"In between this, we have continued with our high-visibility patrols in and around the town centre.
"We have attended as many of the charity stores to make them aware of the increase of purse thefts. The stores were very helpful and keen to try to help in preventing any of their customers from becoming victims of crime .
"They have been informing their customers to be more careful with their items."
Purse chains are also available from the police station on London Road.
