In particular, thanks go to the Battle Knitters and Knatterers who made vast numbers of the chainmail balaclavas using a pattern devised by Shelagh Duffill of Battle Wool Shop, Margaret Emeleus who helped me cut out all the children’s tabards, Tracy Dixon for the decorative braid, Tim Hedges of Howard Bros Joinery (Battle), who provided all the shields. Finally all the teachers, staff and parents who knitted, sewed, painted and helped with the costumes.
The children looked wonderful and we all enjoyed the Band of the Royal Engineers leading us up the High Street and the Re-enactors who led us back to the Abbey with the help of our local drummers, Chaz and Meryl.

You all helped make it a day to remember!
