LETTER: Anybody recall seafront mirage?

My mum was talking today about how back when she was about ten years old, she saw a mirage on Bexhill sea front by the De La Warr.
A large cruise ship appeared just off the shoreline and many people gathered to see it.
She then says it just faded away.

Hide AdShe was with her grandma and dad at he time and many people witnessed this.
It would have been around 1947-49.
I wondered if you’d ever heard of this or if not, if it would be worth asking any of your readers if they recall this peculiar incident?!
