LETTER: We should have a modern road
The reasons that a full dual carriageway is required have been rehearsed so many times and are compelling but we still have 10 miles of poor quality, winding two-way road fed by dual carriageways from both east and west. The frequency of accidents and the appalling death toll demand that we should have a modern, safe road but the advice of transport experts has been repeatedly over-ruled by politicians.
An example is the Beddingham railway bridge, designed by the Highways Agency to take a dual carriageway but carrying a three-lane road because of a politically imposed decision.
