BMX help - now that's what we call justice
Readers agree with the families of the victims, MP Gregory Barker and school head Mike Conn the punishment in this case did not fit the crime. It was far too lenient.
It seems strange an attack which caused so much pain and suffering, both in the short and long term, could carry the sanction of just a few months added to an existing Referral Order.

Some may see the attack as a chance to point the finger at the 'youth of today' and comment on a lack of respect or awareness for others.
The truth is, horrific as this incident was, the perpetrator is in a clear minority.
Groups such as the Bexhill Burners BMX Club should remind us not to tar all youngsters with the same brush.

Hide AdThe club produced many talented riders during the 1980's and 1990's.
Now its rebirth will ensure youths in Sidley and Bexhill can channel their energy in a positive way.
Schemes like theirs will hopefully ensure the minority of misbehaving youths will remain just that - a minority.
And that is why news of a 24,000 grant for the club should be welcomed.

Hide AdA refurbished or new track will allow young BMX riders to experience high-quality, safe facilities close to home.
Such an opportunity on their doorstep cannot help but to inspire them to better things.
It is a common, in some circumstances valid, complaint there is little for the young people of the town to do.
That can never be an excuse for turning to crime and antisocial behaviour, but with facilities in place we can make it easier for them to resist the temptation.

They join other community organisations that have done sterling work down the years and are now seeing others follow their valuable lead.
Hopefully the young people involved with the Bexhill Burners will go on to have successful futures.
One or two may even go on to win the local and national titles brought to Bexhill by a previous generation of racers.
But if those who use the track stay happy, fit and out of trouble that will be good enough for us.
