New committee backs speed limit for village
The decision was taken after the facts were presented to members of the newly-formed committee.
There has been a series of accidents over the years on two main bends at the centre of Thakeham. The new limits will reduce speed on the B2139 north of The Street from derestricted to 40 miles an hour. A new limit of 20 miles an hour is being introduced on The Street itself.

Hide AdThis road contains Thakeham First School, and a road safety message endorsing the new limit has been designed by a pupil at the school and will be part of a new display to inform motorists.
The meeting, at Pulborough Village Hall was chaired by Pat Arculus, County Council Member for Pulborough. She explained that two objections to the scheme wanted the limits extended beyond the current proposal. However the county council's view was that the scheme should begin as soon as possible, with the option to extend limits at a later date.
Mrs Arculus said: "The meeting was a successful start for the South Horsham County Local Committee (CLC). A traffic speed limit decision was taken by members and a number of issues were raised by those present, which the committee will now be looking into.
