Heroic bystanders save the life of Rustington pensioner
The incident took place during the commemoration at the village’s First World War memorial garden, in Ash Lane, shortly after 11.30am.
The pensioner collapsed and had stopped breathing.
Ex-paramedic and current Rustington parish councillor, Stephen Perry, 57, was assisted by paediatric nurse Donna Street, 38, first-aider Sally Cotterill and Gazette chief reporter Tom Cotterill – who is also a trained first-aider.

Hide AdThe team, who had all been watching the commemoration event, provided life-saving CPR for about four minutes before the pensioner regained consciousness.
Paramedics arrived shortly after to treat the woman and take her to hospital.
Chairman of Rustington Parish Council, councillor Graham Tyler, said: “Members of the public were very quick to react. They all did such an incredible job.”
