Hastings group helps to make adifference on Mental Health Day

Taking place at the Old Observer Building, in Cambridge Road, the free to all day-long event included live music, performance, poetry, information, workshops, musical theatre, cinema, a quiet area and refreshments.
It also brought together different agencies that work in the field and offered an opportunity for members of the public and sufferers to see what help is out there.
People brought along food for a care and share lunch.

Hide AdThe Fellowship of St Nicholas held a therapeutic art session while Active Hastings organised a chair-based Pilates session.
There was also an interactive art trail and a session on listening skills.
The art-trail was organised by the Hastings and Eastbourne Mind Project and led from the town centre to the Observer Building. It involved input from Natasha Cossey, a community artist, designer and creative facilitator based in London.
The event was opened by Hastings Council leader Cllr Peter Chowney.

World Mental Health Day was first celebrated in 1992 at the initiative of the World Federation for Mental Health, a global mental health organisation. It is held on October 10 each year. This year’s theme is psychological first aid and the support people can provide to those in distress.
