East Sussex ‘earthquake’ reports disputed

It was initially thought a 3.0 magnitude quake had struck around 18 miles south of Hastings this morning (August 13) – according to information from earthquake-tracking organisation EMSC-CSEM.
However, the British Geographical Survey (BGS) has refuted these reports, suggesting another less-dramatic weather event could have sent ‘spurious’ signals.

Hide AdDavie Galloway of the BGS said, “We have not recorded any earthquakes this morning.
“It’s probably some spurious signals. We have not had any signals on our equipment.
“There has not been an earthquake.”
