Flaunting the new national guidance and ignoring social distancing, hunderds of people marched from Hove to Brighton seafront in opposition to the newest social restrictions designed to slow the spread of coronavirus. Brighton and Hove Police said they were aware of the protest and were engaging with demonstrators. Lockdown rules would be enforced if protestors did not comply, police said. Some protestors have been pictured with anti-vaccine placards bearing the face of Microsoft founder Bill Gates, who has been the target of unfounded conspiracy theories during the pandemic. Since the start of the pandemic, 48,475 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for coronavirus, according to Public Health England, including another 355 yesterday.
