Hide AdRichard Tollett, Rye Harbour RNLI Volunteer Lifeboat Operations Manager, is keen to stress that you don’t need to have sea-going experience to get involved with the RNLI.
He said: “Only 10 per cent of the RNLI’s new recruits come with professional maritime experience. Our lifeboat men and women come from all backgrounds.
‘We are looking for anyone aged 17 years and over who is living or working within 10 minutes of the lifeboat station.
“You need to be willing to volunteer some of your free time to join, which is what I believe to be one of the most exhilarating and rewarding voluntary services that is out there.”

For those who don’t want to get involved on the lifeboat itself, there are other support and fundraising opportunities with the RNLI in Rye Harbour, including assisting with events, education and selling souvenirs in the shop.
If you are interested in volunteering, come to the lifeboat station on Sunday anytime between 10am and 12pm or Monday between 6pm and 8pm and have a brew with the crew and a chat about what they do,
