Act over danger road
CONSULTANTS charged with improving the A27 between Lewes and Polegate should do something about the notorious Firle straight, claims the A27 Action Group.
Halcrow had talked about big road schemes for the Lewes area, said Action Group spokesman Athur Kazantzis.

Hide AdBut there was no mention of doing anything now about the safety situation on the current A27.
And he added: 'In the last four years there have been four fatal accidents on Firle straight and one before Selmeston.
'That is out of a total of seven for the whole road between Lewes and Polegate.
'Everyone knows that this is the fastest part of the road and that is why these terrible accidents keep happening here.'

Hide AdIn 1995 the Action Group published a report by its own consultants that said that speed cameras, lower speed limits and on-line improvements were the answer.
'Seven years later we are all still waiting for the county council and the Highways Agency to do something and now Halcrow as well,' he continued.
'The tragedy is that when the authorities actually do something and spend money fixing junctions and improving surfacing, accidents really do go down.
'Halcrow should be calling for safety measures to be rushed in immediately.'
