Age UK Horsham welcomes author Veronica Henry for book group
The group were thrilled to discover that Veronica had written a short story featuring one of their own members, Horsham resident Elsie Phillips.
The story reflected on Elsie’s evacuation experience as a child to Devon during world war two.

Hide AdElsie said: “It was such a surprise to hear Veronica had written about me and it brought back lots of memories.”
Veronica’s visit will feature in a film commissioned by the National Reading Agency to raise awareness of the Reading Friends project.
The project aims to help combat social isolation by using people’s love of reading to bring them together to build friendships.
The team at Age UK Horsham District were thrilled to be chosen over the summer to work in partnership with the National Reading Agency to deliver Reading Friends across the Horsham District.

Hide AdAge UK Horsham District’s Reading Friends co-ordinator, Karen McCarthy, said: “We have all enjoyed Veronica’s visit.
“The group were all delighted to hear her story and had great fun being filmed, we felt like film stars for the afternoon!”
Age UK Horsham District are planning to increase the number of Reading Friends groups’ across the district in the coming months.
They are keen to hear from people who are interested in attending a group or volunteering to help run a group.
