A Hailsham site that was once one of the largest growing nurseries in the country has been earmarked for development.
Plans have been submitted to Wealden District Council to develop Deanland Nursery, just off Deanland Road.

Although most of the nursery buildings no longer exist, there is still an agricultural barn, a house and the remains of a large greenhouse on site, according to a design and access statement.
The barn is currently redundant, the house is separate to the application submitted and the greenhouse has ‘fallen into a state of disrepair that is un-salvageable for any practical purpose’, documents say.
The plans submitted by the site owner propose the barn is converted into a terrace of six two-bedroom houses each with a garden area and two parking spaces.

It says, “The underlying theme is to follow the semi-agricultural/industrial appearance and yet make the building interesting and attractive.”
The plans also say the houses will be eco-friendly.
