Journey through popular music
With a third grant from The D’Oyly Carte Charitable Trust, New Harmonie is able to extend its Sussex quintet tour From Tin Pan Alley to Abbey Road - a journey through popular music, 1890s-1960s. A further eight churches will host the concert over the next six months. Details of all these concerts are given on www.newharmonie.org.uk.
Cuckfield’s Holy Trinity Church is the venue for the second concert in this extended tour. Geoffrey Richardson (clarinet) and Sarah Williams (oboe) will tell the story and they will be joined by Liz Burtenshaw (flute), Sue Bellamy (bassoon) and Annie Barnard (horn) to play the music. The programme recalls in words and music the different fashions in popular music over the years - Vaudeville, ragtime, jazz, swing, dance bands, Broadway and the pop culture of the Beatles.

Through the generosity of the trustees, we are able to keep this entertaining programme going. It is a chance for local communities to come together, promote live performing arts, listen to a wind quintet and some of the great popular music of the 20th century. There are clips of New Harmonie’s music on the web site www.newharmonie.org.uk”
Reverend Canon Nick Wetherall said “We are delighted to welcome New Harmonie to Holy Trinity Church in Cuckfield, and look forward to an exciting and very entertaining concert.”
